We may be rapidly approaching the “AI singularity” at which point there will be an “intelligence explosion” and AI systems will be better than humans at almost everything. The letter asked for a pause, a time to take a breath and figure out how to make this remarkable step more safely. This could be the best thing to ever happen to us as a species, or the worst.
