This Optimus bot can now self-calibrate its limbs, enhancing its efficiency in various tasks, like autonomously sorting blocks by color amidst dynamic surroundings. Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, shared a video highlighting this achievement on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Musk believes the robot’s potential surpasses that of Tesla’s car business. It’s designed to replace low-skilled labor, capable of handling tasks from grocery shopping to factory work.
Despite no release date or pricing information, initial tests are expected on Tesla’s production line.
Optimus achieves self-calibration through vision and joint position encoding. Once calibrated, it efficiently learns tasks and can adapt to human-introduced changes.
Tesla’s video reveals that the robot’s neural net operates onboard, trained end-to-end with video-in and controls-out.
Initially introduced in 2021 as a solution for tedious and dangerous tasks, Optimus has evolved significantly. It stands at 5’8″, weighs 125 pounds, and moves at a safe 5 miles per hour.
