NUS, A*STAR team develops AI patch to determine wound healing status
A skin patch that uses sensors and AI to check on how well wounds are healing has been developed by a joint NUS and A*STAR research team. The sensor patch is called PETALS and looks like a five-petalled flower. Each petal is a sensing region that tracks different biomarkers like temperature and pH. The centre opening collects fluid from the wound and distributes it to these sensors. After 15 minutes, a photo of the patch can be analysed by an AI programme. So far, it has been highly accurate at telling the health of a wound in experiments.
